Hello,
I've removed the N55 from my 2011 535xi due to a bad rod bearing and would like to refresh the turbo before I put the engine back in the car. Are there any local shops in Minnesota that you like and recommend that specialize in turbo rebuilding? Thank you. Steve
While new to the world of BMWs, I'm quite accustomed to turbo rebuilds for other vehicle brands.
A great shop right over the river in Wisconsin is Midwest Turbo Connection. I typically rebuild my own turbos as I want to know precisely the parts put into them. What I'm unable to do is the balancing to the rotating assembly, so I first went there to have a balance performed. The shop is incredibly clean and organized. That's indicative of their services. I would recommend you give them a call and ask for pricing. If you really want to add longevity to the rebuild, and some faster spool times, replace the standard bearings with full ceramics. A bit more pricey, but well worth it, especially on cars such as these BMWs.

I used this place in Burnsville for my old-school (Tri-K's) stuff.
Couldn't hurt to see what they say about your "new-school lite-duty"
(by truck standards) turbo.
Pricing was right in line w/ mail-it-off places, but much faster & local!
Good Luck! and keep us posted.

Hi Steve. We don't perform a lot of turbo maintenance but we have had a few good experiences with AGP Turbo for any rebuilds we have had in the shop, they are located in Arizona. Surely some of the other mechanic based shops may have an additional recommendation. -Brian
